Corona

When I recently visited a good friend living in Göppingen we wanted to dine at a nice restaurant within walking distance of her apartment on Pharstraße. After a quick search on Yelp I chose Corona. It was a great choice -- just what I was looking for -- a rather small Italian bistro, slightly upscale, perfect for a quiet, leisurely dinner on a Tuesday evening.

We started with glasses of wine. There was a limited selection of wine by the glass on the menu. I opted for the Chianti and found it to be an average but serviceable table wine that complemented my meal just fine.

I ordered Scampi Fra Divolo and my friend ordered Scampi in White Wine Sauce. Salad and bread service were included. The salad was a lightly dressed assortment of very fresh locally sourced greens. The bread was average -- but average bread in Europe is better than 90% of what we can get in the USA. My Diavolo was quite spicy but not over the top. The head on shrimp seemed fresh and they were properly cooked.

I probably won't be back to Göppingen any time soon, but if I am I'd definitely eat at Corona again.
