A beautiful plaza, reminiscent of what can be seen in Versailles. It is worth spending an hour wandering among the sculptures and gardens

This plaza is a beautiful spot to walk through and just feel grateful about being in Madrid. It's located right next to the Palacio Real and makes the area seem even more grand. The park has a huge fountain and a bunch of groomed bushes and flowers everywhere. There are a few benches and there's usually some buskers or entertainers playing music in the area. It's close-ish to the center of Madrid, so keep your hand on your purse/wallet and enjoy!

This is the square that right next to the Palacio Real. Which made it a fantastic place to have a break. I was here right after I visited the Palacio Real. Well, actually I was here for couple times. Since I was wandering from one tourist attraction to the others.

The square got couple different things, like a small park at the back, And beautiful garden at the other side. And really cool sculptures and monuments. I also love the buildings around it. They are just looked amazing.

What a lovely park in front of the palace!! It's circular inside, surrounding a lovely ornate fountain with a statue of a rearing horse and then goes Italianate with a square box shape and lots of diagnoses!

There's a row of a statues to one side and nice to walk thru. Very busy with people walking around and some others just people watching and sitting on the benches. I'm glad we walked thru!

Beautiful space right in front of the Palacio Real. Beautifully manicured gardens and majestic statues of Spanish kings and queens greet you at every turn. The best feature is the fountain at the center. Galileo is said to have helped calculate the measurements, as it is said that it's the first bronze statue featuring a rearing horse. Another fun fact: Neo-Fascists continue to gather here on November 21st, the anniversary of Franco's death.

Plaza de Oriente is the square right beside the Palacio Real. I ran right into it after visiting the palace. Beautiful statues/garden/sights, even at night! Definitely worth a visit/walk-through. The monument of Philip IV lives right here in the middle. Take a picture!

As I was approaching the Palacio Real on foot from Calle Toledo through the back streets through Plaza Oriente, I found the view to be particulary beautiful. You can see the main entrance to the Palacio Real in front of you standing by the statue of Philip IV on a horse. I happened to be looking across the the road at the famous Prince's Gate.

The thing that kept puzzling me was why do they have so many police escorts mulling about, and why is everything cordoned off? This was soon answered. Down the road came the entourage of King Juan Carlos. The King happened to be riding out to his next official engagement. I sat down at one of the benches and took a rest (my wife sitting next to me). We saw the pigeons chasing after the rice and corn.

Looking around, I could see the other statues in the Plaza, and down a ways I could see the Catedral de Almudena. The other direction was the Botanical Garden.

After a few minutes and the entourage passed, my wife and I made our way to the visitor's entrance of the Palacio Real and went inside to see the Palace.

located just across the road from the palacio real, this outdoor plaza/garden/park is free to the public and simply gorgeous to look at. there are walkways, perfectly manicured gardens, tons of statues, and benches to sit on. this is a great place to take a stroll either before or after visiting the royal palace. heck, i even ran thru each of the rows of statues on one of my morning runs b/c i felt that it was the fastest way to see all of the spanish kings from the medieval age. in the hustle and bustle of spain's capital city, this is definitely a peaceful and quiet place to soak up some sun and enjoy the ornate spanish architecture.

Beautiful pedestrian square in fron of the Royal Palace, a place to sit and relax, to admire the Royal Palace or to have lunch, dinner or just a coffee in one of the coffee shops that suround the place.
Pretty well illuminated at night, in case you want to go for a walk.
