Good points: great location, very nice staff, basic necessities that you need.

Less good points: free wi-fi is only for half an hour.
They didn't seem to clean rooms daily, only replaced towels if you wanted to. But the process wasn't seamless - we came back at around 2pm, old towels were gone, and new towels weren't in place yet. Oh well.

We have stayed at this location many times and it's always been great value. Excellent location, everything clean and functional, friendly staff. The location and staff are still as good as they ever were, but everything else has gone to hell, and we won't be staying here again. First off, the room was never cleaned on the full day we were here. We arrived back in the late evening after a long London day, too late and tired to complain and get it cleaned. The Internet would only work on a single device so I had to do anything online on my phone. I spent a full hour at the desk with several very nice staff members trying to help me, without success. Finally they gave me the phone number for Virgin, which does their Internet. They managed to fix it with a quick phone call, but within an hour it was out again. A second call got me the helpful advice that "probably a lot of people are trying to log on right now, just keep trying." It never did come back. More minor complaints: the tv reception was so awful that it was impossible to watch, the towels were scarce, the soap dispenser in the shower didn't work, the water was hot-ish, the coffee at the breakfast buffet could charitably be described as quite hot, quite brown water, and the room key worked off and on (I had to go down to the desk twice to get a new key). I'd like to say once more that the overworked staff are very nice and helpful and doing their best. So long Travelodge: when you were good, you were good, and I'm sorry it had to end this way.

On a reticent trip to the area we stayed four nights due to the location right near Tower Hill tube station.

Our room where great clean & tidy we where happy enough as we had pre planned our days out and only going to use the rooms as a base to sleep.

Our only problem during our stay was someone coming back to their room just after 2am drunk & trying to sing, but with hotels you will once in a while get an issue with with something like this, we didn't notice traffic noise as we where on the top floor, road side.

The rooms where too hot and there was no air conditioning, but there was a fan.

We chose not to have food here due to the location as l knew there was lots of places to eat near by, literally there is a JD weatherspoons next door and we are there for breakfast on two days, there is a breakfast area in the hotel but I thought it looked rather like a staff canteen than for the public.

Very nice and reasonably priced. Many great places around and very close to attraction. Warm and inviting staff.

I did a last minute booking here at the hotel. The hotel is cheap and affordable especially for London. The hotel is in a great location. It is one block from the Tower of London and you can also catch the Big Bus (Hop on and off tour) behind the Tower of London. There are a lot of places to eat down at the Marina under the Tower of London bridge that is 2 blocks from the hotel. The Front Desk people were really friendly when I came. Check in is at 3p and I got to the hotel at 11a. The hotel has luggage check so I got to leave my luggage and go and enjoy the city. I was by myself and I felt safe walking around the neighborhood to the Tower of London and to dinner down at the Marina. The front desk and lobby are kept really nice and clean. I got up to my room and was pleasantly surprised. The hotel room and bathroom were really clean. Everything was neat and tidy. I did notice that the floors squeaked because it is a older hotel but that didn't really bother me. The walls are thin so I could here people outside my room. The room does not have AC but the hotel does provide you with a fan and you can open the window. I just turned the fan on and wasn't hot or uncomfortable. The hotel does offer a full breakfast for $9.00. I did not do this because I had to get to the airport early. The only thing that bothered me was I had to pay $3.00 for WiFi for 24 hours. I thought this was penny pinching especially since they do not have AC. All in All I had a nice stay at the hotel and would stay there again.

Travel Lodges are generally pretty grim and this one is particularly bleak. It's very very basic.

And, my room smelled funny. I was not able to attribute the scent to any previously experienced smell, so can only describe it 'peculiar'. Apart from that, it was clean enough so no complaints otherwise.

I also didn't like the entrance. That makes me sound like a crazy person, so let me explain - you don't have to walk through reception to get to the corridors where the room are. There is a big staircase right at the front door and the corridors lead off that, so there's no one watching who comes in and out. The corridors are accessed through your swipe card, but I still didn't feel particularly secure. It would be an ideal hotel if you were up to something elicit and didn't want anyone to see you coming and going, but that wasn't on the cards for me, and for a lone female, I didn't feel it was particularly safe. Also, some guy started kicking off in the corridor in the middle of the night - not ideal really.

Plus, they are so cheap that the rooms don't even have hairdryers. You have to go to reception to get one, and they will only let you borrow it for 2 hours. Which means if you want to dry your hair in the morning, you either have to journey downstairs pre-shower in your jammies, or post shower when your hair is dripping wet. Who thought that one up? A bald guy I reckon.

It's a convenient location though, it's literally right round the corner from the Tower Hill DLR station. I have no idea about the food - standard Travel Lodge stuff I think, but it's London, you're surrounded by much better places to eat, so go to one of them.

I wouldn't choose to stay here again, it was the smell that did it. And the hairdryer.

Budget hotel, but clean! Our room was tiny without even a dresser or bureau. The bed though was super comfortable and had wonderful nights of sleep after exploring London. Our room was also on the 5th floor, which is considered the 'quiet floor'. Highly recommend this floor. You need key access just to enter this particular floor. Our bathroom was clean, but plan on bringing your own hairdryer or borrow one of theirs. The front desk didn't put a time limit on the loan of the hairdryer, like I read in previous reviews. Maybe they changed their policy. I was also lent a phone charger without a time limit. The 2 elevators (lifts) are quick and clean. WIFI was intermittent.

The majority of the staff was polite, friendly and helpful. We just reminded ourselves this isn't the Four Seasons! Budget prices for London. London expensive, but oh, so worth it!

The breakfast offered is a typical English breakfast, plus cereals, granola, coffee and juice. We prepaid for the breakfast, but you can pay as you go. There is also a liquor bar. Also, an adorable pub across the street, called Minories.

This hotel is super close to the Underground (tube) (subway), which takes you to all the sights. Highly recommend getting an Oyster Card to utilize the Underground and double decker buses. When using the Underground remember to swipe your card on your way in and out!

For the price, we were very pleased at the size and quality of the room. It was exceedingly clean, within walking distance of the DLR, tube, and ferry, and lots of restaurants around. We never made it to breakfast, but I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

OK, so it's a budget option, but a recent stay confirmed that it was cheap and cheerful: the room was reasonably sized by London standards and very clean, though it was a bit short of hangers (just 4 for a double room); a small but adequate shower/toilet room (no shampoo though, so bring your own); and amazingly, despite a room that overlooked the tracks into Fenchurch Street station, there was hardly any train noise (and I am a very light sleeper). This is because it was quadruple-glazed (essentially two lots of double glazing with a big gap in between). This might be a problem in the summer, however, if you needed the window open, as the hotel does not appear to be air-conditioned. It is about two minutes' walk from Tower Gateway DLR and five minutes from Tower Hill Underground, and just over five minutes from Aldgate. As others have said, for the money, the breakfast is a bit limited: just scrambled egg, baked beans, sausages and bacon in the hot buffet; and croissants, tiny muffins and toast in the continental section. And a rather grim coffee machine instead of proper coffee. So, OK if you are in a hurry, but Wetherspoons (two minutes' walk) offers a much better selection, and also does evening meals (standard pubby fare) at reasonable prices until 10pm. Overall: I'd be happy to stay here again in the winter, especially if the price was right.

Cheap and convenient. Of course Travelodge is usually bleak accommodation, but as far as London goes, who really wants to spend time in their hotel room anyway?
